History

Bruce Brockman, founder of YANTOTC You Are Never To Old Technology Company, had the opportunity, almost ten years ago, to teach his 80+-year-old parents computer skills and saw first hand how it changed their lives. A senior himself and drawing near to the end of an entrepreneurial career he thought he would spend some time helping local seniors as he had helped his parents. However as an entrepreneur, he saw a much larger need for the entire growing senior population to keep in touch with today's technology. Many seniors are computer phobic. Bruce felt if a senior really wanted their own affordable computer, they could learn to operate a computer and replace all apprehensions with the excitement of using a computer. Based on his “love” of the technology and knowledge of computer benefits he was sure convincing people they wanted one would be no problem.

Bruce set out to see what was being done to provide computer training for seniors. He found a large group of non-profit organizations that were providing minimal introductory training for a fee. The classes were held at a site where the senior has to find transportation to attend, leaving out the senior who is unable to travel. The classes were held once or twice a week, and if the senior had a problem or forgot how to do a task, the question had to wait until the next class. Bruce felt if a senior was provided with an affordable, highly functional computer with training in video, audio and written formats, they could learn in the leisure of their own residence. They could at their own pace review the available programs and overcome the fear of running a computer while truly having fun and enjoying a computer. Bruce presented his innovative idea of offering a complete package – hardware, software and unique hands-on training for seniors to John Bell Jr, a successful businessman. In addition to presenting his vision for this unique format, Bruce conducted an informal training session. Mr. Bell, a retired senior himself, realized first hand the valuable benefits derived from using a computer. What a wonderful opportunity for seniors to expand their learning and understanding through the vast information pipeline on the Internet. The use of a computer will also provide them with the resources to enjoy hours of entertainment reading books, listening to music, watching movies, playing games and communicating with friends and family via email, voice and video.

Bruce and John decided to form the company to accomplish just that and YANTOTC was born. Finding a computer manufacturer that understood the agenda was the next order of business. Systemax, a fortune 1000 company, with manufacturing based in Fletcher, OH was an excellent fit. The Systemax, philosophy is to build a consistently, high-quality component computer at a competitive price. Systemax proudly places a “Made in America” sticker on their computer. Systemax's engineers are working with us to provide the hardware and software for a fully functional computer that will meet the needs for our seniors. They have agreed to give us high priority, senior oriented, technical support, directly from their Fletcher Ohio based technical support center, whenever needed. During the following months additional people were added to the team to work on web development, purchasing, training and the roll out of the program. During this same period of time “students” were enlisted to tryout the program and based on their input the training and equipment was tweaked.

The current goals of the company are to present this program through assisted living facilities, starting in Ohio and North Carolina, thus beginning YANTOTC communities, each with their own locally focused web site, which will all be tied to the national YANTOTC web site. With a target audience of over 45 million “boomers” Bruce and his associates know their work (joyful and rewarding as it is) is cut out for them. Plans are already being made for “special needs” YANTOTCERS in the hope that anyone that wants the benefits of our digital age will, with YANTOTC's help, be able to have and enjoy it.
